Inspired by luminaires that reflect flashlights, tungsten lamps or HMIs into an umbrella reflector system, Redback from Hudson Spider puts nearly 3,500 tightly placed tungsten lamps and daylight temperature LEDs into a 36" diameter luminaire. Produced With an equivalent maximum output of 12,280 lumens, the company said that when using the bounce, Redback is comparable to a 2,500W HMI.

Use hardened 7075 aluminum hinges to fold the inner Spider LED array into a 7.5" x 13" cylinder for transportation. The undispersed parabolic array has two main peripherals: Redback 3'Octagon Parabolic reflector, priced at $643. And the Redback 6'softbox is priced at $1,989. The invisible mode of the Redback 6'softbox will shrink the panel into a flat form and create a 6'softbox at a depth of only 25 cm (0.82021').

Since Hudson already provides flags, soft egg boxes and diffusers, other manufacturers, including Chimera, are currently customizing accessories for Spider Redback.

In order to introduce light into the 40-degree transmission, Los Angeles-based Rag Place collaborated with European and Asian distributor DoPchoice to develop their Snap product line, which is Hudson Spider Redback 3'Octa and Snapgrid and is suitable for Kino Flo, Quasar, Cineo, Mac Tech, Snapbag products from IKAM, Aadyntech, Sourcemaker, Lite Gear, Moss Lighting, etc.

DoPchoice, which distributes in Europe and Asia, has established a cooperative relationship with The Rag Place, which represents North America and Canada. Last September, they also released a new DoPchoice 3'Lantern, which is a lightweight overhead soft light that can be quickly installed.

This fall, DoPchoice celebrated its 10th anniversary and also demonstrated Lantern5 for the Rabbit-Ears accessory system. Despite the shallow depth, the overhang height is 70 cm (2.3 feet), which they say will be the largest lantern or pancake softener on the movie market. The new Snapbox for Exalux and the new Snapbag and Snagprid for Astera and VelvetLight's upcoming Velvet2 EVO have been released at the same time, which are introduced here.

"Hudson Spider's new LED light has all the features of a high-quality two-color LED device. It has a "smooth", very compact and foldable design, which is much lighter than most existing LED devices. It is portable and easy to assemble , The octagonal umbrella structure provides a very soft and inclusive light...I like it,” ASC (whose works include Blade and Cruel Intentions) said in a press release.

"For 30 years," ASC's Steven Fierberg (whose works include Entourage, Love and other Drugs, and The Affair) continued, "I have always dreamed of perfect light-something with the quality of a 5K Bardwell-McAllistair cone, but with weight. A lot lighter. The Hudson Spider version is better than I thought."

“It’s really exciting to be exposed to this light. In fact, I don’t have to cut or disperse it to make it suitable for 90% of the time, which is great. This means that my single light needs someone to come. Set, not four people," said Greig Fraser of ASC and ACS (his works include "Zero Dark Thirty", "The Lion" and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story").

Through the octagonal beautiful light spread, the fascinating lighting produced does not require additional diffusion. The base unit weighs a little over 7 pounds, and Hudson says that a crew member equipped with a C-bracket or giant arm can set up the Spider Redback in five minutes.

Local lighting control via ballasts and dimmers is combined with onboard DMX-it is compatible with AC400 DMX ballast unit-and is provided with LiteGear, LiteDimmer Plus AC400 DMX and AC power supply worth $1,299. When using Litegear power supply, the average cumulative CRI of the Redback test is 95+. Two-color LED lights (2,600-6,500K) have 0-100% dimming without color shift. For photometry, at 24fps and ISO 800, Redback measures f/22 at 3', f/11 at 6', and f/8.4 at 9'.

Australian inventor and cinematographer Tim Hudson, ACS designed and named the folding red back after the titular inland spider. Hudson, co-founder and wife Sarah Hudson established their own dedicated manufacturing facility in Valencia, California, including design, assembly, and electronics rooms. They own three CNC machines, and they say they can manufacture Hudson Spider Redbacks and components around the clock.

"We track every lamp from start to finish, from material procurement, processing, anodizing, assembly and welding," Sarah Hudson said. "We micro-manage everything step by step, including the use of high tensile strength 7075 aluminum to obtain maximum strength and durability. It was originally a small idea for Hudson Kitchen, and now it is a mature factory. Are shipped worldwide."

A custom waterproof protective cover is priced at US$495. Redback heads start at only US$3,999, and the US$7,390 Redback Deluxe Kit includes most of the available accessories, including Redback Hex Grid, 180-degree Teaser, Rag Place Magic Cloth and Grid Diffusion.
