Now, we have the latest version of INNOVV's dedicated turnkey system K2-evolved from the original K1 and C5, providing a turnkey dual-channel dynamic sports high-definition video camera system.

The dual-channel K2 component is designed to withstand the use of rigorous power sports. The protection level of the main components is IP65 (dust/waterproof) or IP67 (dustproof and immersed in 1m water depth). The overall operating/storage temperature range is -20C ~ 70C (-4F ~ 158F)

INNOVV aims to provide all the basic components, except for a few exceptions, everything needed to start and run the system is indeed in-house.

This section is used to describe the “what”, “how” and “why” of the progressive construction of the main components, and provides a “partial sum” exercise of the K2 system.

The sealed component is a 12/5V DC converter with some onboard electronic smart devices. It provides a suitable 5V switching power supply for the system components, and is used in conjunction with the DVR gravity sensor to enable the following parking mode functions. In terms of layout, there are two wiring harnesses on the top of the sealed module. The second group is led out from the upper left corner of the converter module as a three-wire (output) cable. The cable is terminated in a waterproof connector, which is paired with the (keying) counterpart on the DVR flying wire.

The ten-second power-on/off delay provides start-up protection when the ignition is turned on and the engine is started, and an elegant delayed shutdown, so that any activity record can be saved without being lost.

The pre-production kit has the (upgraded) thicker plastic bracket from the C5 kit, and a new black lightweight pinch bracket will be sent later-these well-machined parts have side and top mounting points and use the standard camera bracket 0.25 inches ( 20P) Thread.

After the release of the single-channel C5 and while developing the K2 system, INNOVV decided to standardize a single style of camera assembly-so the K2 kit uses two small solid billet tubular camera modules, just like the C5 system.

Each camera adopts a sealed (IP67-rated) module and is equipped with a 6G hardened medium and wide-angle lens (diagonal 145⁰/horizontal 120⁰/vertical angle 100⁰), which can provide the best view for the road ahead and behind, thus realizing road and traffic monitoring and Capture the installation environment from any angle.

The available video resolution settings are 1080p 30 fps and 720p 60 fps. The video format is H.264 compression in MP4 format. Both cameras are now set to the same pair of resolutions, which is different from the original K1 which allows each camera to have a different resolution.

The pre-release K2 system used for preliminary reviews and testing has been installed on Tiger, and the system is also equipped with an INNOVV C5. This dual banking is good because it allows direct comparisons between the two systems.

In order to better standardize the front view, the K2 and C5 front camera modules are installed on the left and right sides-basically flush with the headlights. The K2 module uses the newer black billet clamping mount and L-shaped bracket, while the C5 module uses a plastic ring mount with a spring assembly and an L-shaped bracket.

I did test the front module on the upper front fender or under the beak-it was almost completely hidden from view (the same is true for BMW GS models) and the overall view was limited, and the lens quickly became dirty.

The K2 rear camera is mounted on a formed light steel L-shaped bracket that shares the same bracket with the adapter plate of the SHAD ST38 aluminum top box (a prototype that has never been on the market).

The small metal and fiber washers in the kit form a sandwich isolation washer between the camera bracket and the L-shaped bracket; this is one of the most effective ways to reduce vibration and stabilize the video.

The GPS module was originally fixed on the back of the top box cover with a low-profile 3M Dual-Lock square, but using a newer, longer 1.2+m cable, the component is now installed on the top of the BMW Locking Cradle and Navi V combination. It is installed on a self-made head-up Navigate to the mounting bracket.

The camera and GPS module leads are returned between the side panels and the frame (fully usable) under the rear seat compartment, which is very suitable for the installation of electronic accessories, including multiple leads and wiring harnesses.

Since the K2 12/5V DC converter module is sealed, it is glued to the left side of the under-seat shell, next to one of the approximately 24 mm oval holes on both sides of the deck shell.

These holes provide convenient access and wiring for the input and output wiring of the converter module, but also allow moisture and dirt to enter, so a properly sized gasket can provide a better seal.

After crimping/welding the ring terminal and applying the heat shrinkable sealing part, take out the 2A miniature fuse from the positive in-line bracket of the converter and the negative battery lead, put the ring terminal in place with the main battery lead, everything is tightened— —The last is the negative terminal.

The yellow switch or trigger/ACC wire returns to the USB harness under the seat, and the red Posi-Tap is connected to the white wire of the USB harness cleanly and inconspicuously.

After replacing the 2A series fuse, connect the converter output and the waterproof connection of the GPS harness to the leads marked "power" and "GPS" on the DVR (the connection is "keyed"-they can only be installed in the correct way to eliminate Installation error).

After the two waterproof USB-C connectors on the lens lead are completely fixed in the ports on the DVR module and the insertion screws are tightened, the initial installation is complete.

Turn on the ignition switch and wait for 10 seconds, the K2 system starts, the LED flashes, and video recording starts shortly thereafter. It's time to establish a WiFi connection, start the application, and configure the system.

Note – This pre-release system installation has been replaced by an updated retail box (Rev 1) kit.

Use the second retail box kit provided. Overall, its installation is similar to the method used by Tiger.

There are only two deviations in the installation process:

The yellow trigger wire gets the switching power supply from the Posi-Tap on the 7.5A power cord added to the accessory plug under the seat.

The DVR module is located in a lightweight foam cushion under the front (rider) seat section.

The K2 system and its components and functions are an excellent plug-and-play accessory with almost seamless "one-and-for-all" performance-it just continues to record, with marked GPS data and produces excellent HD quality front and back video .

One of the best features of the K2 system (especially the camera) is the versatility of the lens-providing an excellent field of view on the vertical and horizontal axes, which is a key factor in being able to use the system for road and traffic monitoring and scenic spots . capture.

Although I may still miss the original LCD on the K1 DVR, it has the same preview/live view and other functions, and provides more versatility and ease of use through WiFi connection and smart device apps-everything is great good.

Many people will question why the K2 camera module is not hidden or at least placed in a low-key installation on our family fleet motorcycles. This is indeed a fair question.

But the purpose of use is to provide a clear and best view of the front and back for each field of view, so as to complete the best video capture for various purposes.

After the setup is complete, the K2 system will capture two channels of high-definition video, which together with GPS data and audio provide a beautiful and long-lasting cycling record. Over the years, there have been some notable events, among which K1, C5 and K2 video, audio and reference data have been proven to be valuable to us and other parties...

The power and sensor-based solutions provided in K2 for the standby/parking mode function seem to be effective, but the overall function seems to depend on the motorcycle and the installation location/method of the DVR. Adjusting the sensitivity between low, medium, and high will not provide much change.

With the extended use of the two systems, this feature has become a hit-n-miss capability; sometimes it will activate but usually not, and it will often generate a large number of files in the parking mode folder, even if the system is in Such events will not be triggered when running on relatively flat roads.

And interfering with or physically removing the motorcycles from their brackets will not activate the function at all. Therefore, this feature is turned off. Please rest assured that we are discussing this issue with the K2 team leader.

Since I am very familiar with K1’s camera module-based sensors and other systems that have G-sensor-based capabilities to detect motion, etc., I don’t believe it is best to put a single G sensor in the DVR module, especially considering the place where the DVR may be installed (In the vicinity of the quality of the motorcycle).

My suggestion is to revisit the feature-a wider dynamic range and/or adjustable (customizable) settings may work, acknowledging the added complexity. Alternatively, the camera housing or GPS module can provide a better location for the primary (or secondary) sensor; this valuable function can and should be more effective.

The module is hidden somewhere, the silicone weatherproof cover is placed on the DVR module and you can enjoy the typical motorcycle environment. The audio is usually very low and difficult to understand.

One solution is to lift or remove the silicone cover on the small pinhole (as shown above)-this can significantly improve the overall audio, although the integrity of the DVR is compromised, and the audio is still not as good as many other PoV systems …

Fortunately, the K2 team also solved this problem, and when testing the modified module with external holes, a significant improvement in audio was observed.

We are waiting for one of the upgraded DVR housings, which comes with a new pressure-sealed cover (see the previous photo in the DVR module section), which contains an amplified audio pickup opening covered with a waterproof membrane. (Update information will be released after collecting test data...)

The lesson learned over the years in using POV cameras on car bodies or mounted on motorcycles is that it is (indeed) worthwhile to regularly check stored files and download them to secure storage (especially when using low-capacity on-board media) of.

When commuting or riding local terrain, if there is a specific activity or event (first responder or insurance related) that needs to be viewed or may be required, check and download files once or twice a week or more frequently.

On the road, I hope that the recorded video is or can be the focus of the scenery, rather than the traffic-related files. The files are reviewed and saved to the travel PC and/or portable drive every day.

The solution identified by INNOVV for displaying dual-channel video with GPS marker data captured by K2 is Dashcam Viewer.

I initially used the free version, but later paid for the full version. It is not the only application on the market that supports multi-channel and multi-sensor data, but once the required plug-ins are installed, it will work well. The software supports the original K1 system, as well as other PoV systems I still use.

This is the third INNOVV camera system reviewed for wBW. Although the original K1 system has some (still) unique features of its predecessor, the new K2 system is better in almost every aspect.

I have never been out riding without at least one helmet, body or motorcycle-mounted camera continuously recording; a modification to the personal ATGATT method.
