Ikelite has announced that it is suitable for the housing of the Panasonic Lumix S5 full-frame mirrorless camera. The S5 is equipped with the same full-frame 24MP BSI CMOS sensor as the S1, with continuous autofocus at 5fps, and can use the full sensor width to record UHD/DCI 4K/30p video at 10-bit 4:2:2. Following the firmware update last November, S5 can also output 5.9K/30p and 4K/60p ProRes RAW to Atomos Ninja V or Ninja V external recorders.

Ikelite's new "200DL" series housings provide complete functions: dry lock (DL) port system, ergonomically designed shutter and autofocus levers, large soft-touch zoom knobs and hard anodized aluminum buttons. When you add the optional DL3 DS Link TTL converter, you can use Ikelite DS series flashes for TTL flash exposure; otherwise, you will get out-of-the-box manual electronically triggered strobes for Ikelite, Sea&Sea, Inon and Retra.

The important thing is that for videographers, you can make full use of S5's high-quality RAW output to Atomos Ninja V/V by customizing a shell with a large-diameter M24 port that supports HDMI 2.0. (The standard M16 port on the case only supports HDMI 1.4, and the maximum recording speed is 4K/30p.) You can read more about Ikelite's new support for external monitors/recorders here.

Shipping now, Ikelite's Panasonic Lumix S5 case is priced at $1,695.

200DL underwater housing for Panasonic Lumix S5 mirrorless digital camera

Full-featured and durable waterproof housing, suitable for Panasonic Lumix DC-S5 mirrorless full-frame cameras. Suitable for scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, swimming pools, and any application in or in the water.

The enclosure uses our robust dry lock (DL) port system. "Dry lock" refers to placing the O-ring on the outside of the port mount. This improves visibility and reduces the chance of water dripping onto your precious camera sensor. The DL port is the lightest port on the market, but it is sturdy and durable and can withstand heavy storms. The attachment is fast and safe. An expansion system can easily accommodate a variety of lenses.

Most popular zoom lenses and selected lens focus rings can be engaged using simple gears, making adjustments within easy reach. The large and soft knob on the side of the housing makes fine-tuning a breeze. The zoom and focus gears differ depending on the lens you are using. The zoom gear is sold separately.

The unique rear seal design prevents accidental twisting or stretching of the O-ring, enabling simple and reliable assembly. We no longer need O-ring grooves or channels because they can trap sand, dirt or debris. The three double passivated stainless steel locking cap snaps are simple to use and almost unbreakable. The transparent back allows you to see that the O-ring forms a strong waterproof seal when closed.

The vacuum valve is installed on the side of the housing as standard. The vacuum valve is designed to be low-profile to avoid interference with control. The optional vacuum pump with vacuum gauge # 47011 allows you to draw a vacuum on the housing to check for leaks before entering the water.

Pumping a vacuum on the system can also provide additional safety on the water surface, which is especially important when using the enclosure in rough ocean waves.

The spare M16 threaded accessory port provides a connection point for third-party accessories (including HDMI bulkheads).

This model can be customized to add a large-diameter M24 threaded accessory port for connecting HDMI displays using M24 or M28 threads (M24 to M28 adapters are required, not sold by Ikelite). The shell with ports can be customized or returned to the shell for after-sales modification. This port is located on the left side of the housing to reduce interference with controls.

The shell supports you to choose manual stroboscopic exposure shooting or add a TTL converter according to your application. The strobe partition is located on the top of the housing to reduce the pressure on the sync line.

By adding DL3 DS Link Panasnoic/Olympus TTL converter Ikelite PT1 hot shoe kit #46032 and compatible Ikelite DS flash, you can enjoy the fastest and most accurate TTL exposure on the market. You can add or subtract exposure compensation in the camera.

The reliable locking connector between the hot shoe and the bulkhead allows you to easily install the TTL hot shoe or carry spare parts when traveling to remote areas.

When you need to focus on composition, focus, and proper exposure, good ergonomics is essential. The large and curved lever puts the most important controls where you need them: shutter and autofocus (with AF/AE lock button). This combination allows you to shoot with or without the back button to focus, which is an advanced technology that can be used to sharply focus on super macro and fast-moving objects. When using the right-hand handle, each lever can be extended with the optional trigger extension # 4077.95 for perfect spacing.

Rotary controls are intuitively operated through high-quality light-tap knobs. An oversized leaf-shaped knob puts the zoom/focus knob at your fingertips, while your left hand remains on the handle. The stainless steel, direct-drive rotation control is actually fail-safe, and users can perform maintenance and adjustments in critical junctures.

All rear camera buttons can be operated by smooth operation, hard anodized aluminum buttons, reliable performance and easy to maintain. These controls are clearly marked by laser engraving on the back of the housing and will never fade or fall off.

The camera bracket is front-mounted, easy to install and remove. A small mounting plate is attached to the bottom of the camera and fixed to the front of the housing. When using or replacing the battery or memory card on the surface, there is no need to remove the camera mounting plate from the camera. There is a 1/4-20 threaded mount at the bottom of the mounting plate, so it can be connected to a tripod on the surface.

When viewing through a diving mask, the included SuperEye viewfinder provides an enhanced view of the camera's electronic viewfinder. The viewfinder can be quickly and easily removed to install the optional linear magnification viewfinder # 6890.2 or 45° magnification viewfinder (type 1) # 6891.1.

Moving and traveling

The housing, tray and handle are optimized to reduce weight while maintaining strength and durability. You can add or remove the right quick release handle # 4077.02 (sold separately) according to your needs. The precision-machined aluminum base has a 1/4-20 tripod mounting socket and additional mounting locations for future accessories. When your system is damaged due to travel, the base and handle can be quickly removed.

The 1/4-20 threaded mounting points are located at the front and center of the housing above the lens port mount. This mount can be used to connect light accessories such as focus lights or GoPro cameras.

If you use two flashes or lighting arms for shooting, you can add a top handle to facilitate travel to and from the dive site. The top handle can be used for cable handle # 4080.07 or aluminum top handle # 4080.08. The rigid aluminum version provides additional mounting points for lighting and accessories.

It is strongly recommended to add a dedicated focus light to the top mount or strobe arm to achieve more accurate autofocus in low light settings.

Durability and corrosion resistance

Our white ABS-PC hybrid housing provides strength and non-corrosion performance, and requires minimal maintenance. ABS-PC is lighter than aluminum, making it easy to travel and reducing resistance underwater. The color of the special formula can deflect the sunlight, keeping your camera cooler and running longer. Compared to black or transparent housings, light colors provide superior contrast, enhancing the field of view of the camera, LCD screen, and O-ring seal.

Ikelite products are designed, manufactured and tested in the United States. We use top-notch materials sourced locally. Our enclosures are handmade and individually tested for suitability and function. Each unit is subjected to a 200-foot (60-meter) water pressure test. We support our products with more than 50 years of experience and the best service reputation in the diving industry.

This case is only compatible with the Panasonic DC-S5 camera shipped by the manufacturer. Unless otherwise specified, this case is not suitable for use with additional handles, battery handles, eyepieces, LCD covers, or other accessories.

The difference in lens and control position prevents other Panasonic camera models from being used or adapted in this case. We are not aware of any other models available or suitable for this particular enclosure.

Ikelite DS strobe compatibility

You can use any Ikelite DS flash in manual exposure mode by connecting one or two using a compatible sync power cord. By adding the optional DL3 DS Link TTL converter, TTL hot shoe and sync power cord, the current model of DS flash can be used in TTL exposure mode.

SEA&SEA, INON and Retra flashes with electrical connections can be triggered using the synchronized power cord in manual exposure mode. A flash without an electronic sync line connection cannot be connected to this system, except from a hard-wired flash.

Older non-digital strobe lights with ICS-5 electronic sync cord spacers can be used with the system in manual exposure mode.

Only fiber optic strobe lights are not compatible with this installation. The external flash must be connected via an electronic sync line.

The flashlight with remote slave function can be triggered by the flashlight connected to the housing through the synchronization power cord. Ikelite DS flash supports remote triggering using Optical Slave Converter # 4405 or Water Wizard system (manufactured and sold by Aquatica).

Adding an external flash or video light can enhance the color and clarity of your photos underwater. If you will be shooting under 45 feet (13 meters) or in an indoor swimming pool, your photos will be mostly blue-green with no artificial light sources. Read more about strobe options
